BJS RELEASES REPORTS ON LOCAL POLICE, SHERIFFS’ OFFICES, AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
 
          WASHINGTON— The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics today released Local Police Departments, 2016: Personnel, which provides statistics on the sworn and civilian personnel of the approximately 12,300 local police departments in the U.S.; Sheriffs’ Offices, 2016: Personnel, which provides statistics on the sworn and civilian personnel of the approximately 3,000 sheriffs’ offices in the U.S.; and Federal Law Enforcement Officers, 2016 – Statistical Tables, which provides statistics on federal law enforcement officers employed by 83 federal agencies in the U.S.
